Immigrant incorporation in cities is often explained using the theories of spatial and segmented assimilation, which differ, among other things, in their approach to the spatial aspects of incorporation. However, empirical evidence about immigrant spatial incorporation from both theories is ambiguous, since most case studies focus on a single location and a limited number of immigrant groups, which hampers their external validity.

Cílem studie je vyplnit tuto mezeru v současném vědeckém poznání oblasti nízkých mezd v Česku a poskytnout detailní a systematický pohled na tuto problematiku nízkých. Studie zapadá do širšího výzkumu nerovnosti a přispívá specifickým pohledem na jednu z jejích stránek v konkrétním prostředí Česka. Studie nejprve z makroekonomického pohledu mapuje nízkou celkovou mzdovou hladinu v Česku v širších ekonomických souvislostech.

The text focuses on definitions of subcultures and presents important approaches to study youth music subcultures – the Birmingham school and post-subcultural theories. The author debates the possibilities of applying these approches in post-socialism and address post-socialist features of the Czech subcultures. In particular, the author argues that there is a strong ethos of individualism, which resonates with the liberal and  neo-liberal values that became dominant in the 1990s.

Perspectives on migrant integration differ by time and place. This article examines this vague concept to shed light on how its evolution over time has shaped the current conceptions of migrant integration in the EU and the Czech Republic. It describes the situation in the Czech Republic and the country's normative goals in the field of migrant integration. While the country has explicit integration priorities in place, there is no evaluation of their fulfilment.

The chapter is part of the book which analyzes the situation of democracy in eleven post-communist EU member states and in East Germany. Over the past 30 years, the Czech Republic has experienced democratization, economic transformation and a redefinition of the nation-state. Today, it has consolidated democratic and market-economy institutions, but these are challenged by the concentration of economic, political and media power in the hands of the incumbent prime minister.
