The chapter draws on an example of the negotiation of the fate of urban gardening in allotments in post-socialist Prague in order to question the public-private dichotomy and argues that urban spaces need to be understood and managed as a hybrid space.

The aim of this paper is to introduce crime harmspots as a new analytical approach measuring the societal impact of crime at places. The crime harm approach has a clear practical applicability in policing and crime prevention. Increasing utilisation of geo-localised crime data and validity of law of crime concentration at places enables us to measure societal impact of crime at the level of individual street segments.

Democracy, defined as liberal pluralism, is under stress worldwide. Pluralistic democratic institutions: a free press, civil society and the rule of law all seem to be under attack. Democracies are being hollowed out from within while preserving the fundamental facade of elections.

Th e article contributes to critical analyses of contemporary European religion and (rather loose) conceptualisations of post-secularism. Return of religion into the public space, which may be called post-secularism, is visible and growing even in predominantly outchurched Czech Republic. However, the very concept of post-secularism is too broad to be used as an analytical category.

Attitudes towards women in politics and gender culture in general have implications for the status of women in politics and their descriptive representation. In the paper we ask what attitudes people have in the Czech Republic towards women in politics and their descriptive representation, how these attitudes have changed across time, and what factors are associated with these changes. We draw mainly on a survey carried out in 2014, and we compare its data with survey data collected in 2006.

The study deals with the analysis of the religious situation in Czech society after 1989. The starting point is the analysis of the broader historical and sociopolitical context. The study itself examines an analysis of the key census data from 1991, 2001, and 2011, together with the results of research explicitly focused on the religion and religious behavior of the Czech population.
