The chapter analyzes the consequences of the Prussian-Austrian War in 1866 for Czech and Moravian Protestants of both confessions (Lutherans and Calvinists). It also shows the fundamental transformation of the relationship between Czech and Moravian Protestants (in regional sense) to Prussia during the 19th century.

Forests are being increasingly studied within the framework of social sciences, especially in relation to environmental problems and global climate change. This article deals with the perception of Czech forests and their management at two basic levels: at the level of sociological analysis of in-depth interviews with experts in the field of forestry and at the level of public opinion research.

The issue of the Edict of Toleration legalised evangelicals of Lutheran and reformed confessions in Bohemia and Moravia. Their religious life required the support of printed materials in the form of religious literature of the corresponding confession approved by the state. Relatively high production of Protestant books, both original and translated, began to emerge.

Cross-national comparisons of fear of crime have been gaining in popularity within the academic community, as they allow for the examination of both individual and country-level correlates of this phenomenon. Nevertheless, the role of perceived victimization risk in fostering fear of crime with respect to various country specifics is often neglected.

Utilising a comparative/doing gender approach and thematic narrative methodology, we examine how copreneurs – romantic business partners – construct business and caring responsibilities. We interviewed male-female partners separately from 12 couples in the Czech Republic (CR) and 13 in the United States (US), countries with diverse entrepreneurial histories, norms and family policies. We ask: (1) How do copreneurs construct/‘do’ business and family?

National pride is a group-based and sometimes collective emotion people feel towards their nation-state. It is often measured by the general national pride item in cross-national surveys, and Czechs belong to those nations that express low levels of general national pride in comparison with other nations. It is currently under discussion how much general national pride is influenced by social desirability and how much by specific reasons.

The article analyses organisational development of two main established non-Catholic churches in the Czech Lands, i.e. the Protestant Church of the Czech Brethren (Českobratrská církev evangelická) and the Czechoslovak (Hussite) Church (Církev československá /husitská/), since their establishment in 1918 and 1920 to the present.

Nations are viewed as metaphorical families having common ancestors. Czechs, for example, share the legend about a forefather Čech who brought his people into Czechia. Analysing the Czech ISSP 2013 data we examine how the importance of having Czech descent depends on Christian denomination, openness towards immigration, perceived commonality with ‘significant Others’, foreign-born parents, and socio-demographics.

The results of research on domestic labour consistently show that women are responsible for more housework tasks than men. At the same time, there is growing public awareness of gender role equality. However, there is little evidence on whether there has been any change in the perception of fairness in the division of housework and whether this view differs in different families.
