Immigrant incorporation in cities is often explained using the theories of spatial and segmented assimilation, which differ, among other things, in their approach to the spatial aspects of incorporation. However, empirical evidence about immigrant spatial incorporation from both theories is ambiguous, since most case studies focus on a single location and a limited number of immigrant groups, which hampers their external validity.

The text focuses on definitions of subcultures and presents important approaches to study youth music subcultures – the Birmingham school and post-subcultural theories. The author debates the possibilities of applying these approches in post-socialism and address post-socialist features of the Czech subcultures. In particular, the author argues that there is a strong ethos of individualism, which resonates with the liberal and neo-liberal values that became dominant in the 1990s.

Perspectives on migrant integration differ by time and place. This article examines this vague concept to shed light on how its evolution over time has shaped the current conceptions of migrant integration in the EU and the Czech Republic. It describes the situation in the Czech Republic and the country's normative goals in the field of migrant integration. While the country has explicit integration priorities in place, there is no evaluation of their fulfilment.

Phantom Borders: less know data sources for understanding elections. The aim of this article is to report about phantom borders as a unique type of border. Current research in political geography and history shows that even no longer existing legal and political borders can still play a role in various societal practice and behaviour.

Immigration is one of the most contentious fields of contemporary European urban policy. While the development of urban segregation is well documented in traditional immigration countries with population register data, there is a lack of detailed research on population dynamics in many countries and cities across Europe. This article examines ethnic residential segregation in Czechia in the period after the economic crisis of 2008.

Klima se v lesnictví odjakživa považuje za nezávislý stanovištní faktor. Změna klimatu ale představuje podstatnou změnu podmínek pro vývoj, fungování a růst lesa jako nenahraditelné součásti naší krajiny. Tuto změnu musí respektovat i hospodářské využívání lesa. Důsledkem zanedbání tohoto principu je mj. probíhající kůrovcová kalamita, co do rozsahu a dopadů jedna z největších v historii středoevropského lesnictví.

Česká veřejnost vysoce hodnotí spirituální a estetické funkce stromů a je dobře obeznámena s některými environmentálními či ekologickými hodnotami stromů, které pokládá za velmi důležité, zejména ve srovnání s funkcemi čistě užitkovými. Na druhou stranu jiné ekologické funkce vázané na staré a suché stromy nepovažuje za důležité, ačkoliv tato hodnota stromů je považována za významnou v přírodovědných oborech.

Stromy a lesy jsou zásadní pro stabilitu planety. Jak ale o nich lidé přemýšlejí v širším kontextu? Jsou důležité i ty staré, suché a solitérní? Jak je vnímá česká společnost? Nejen tyto otázky zodpovídali odborníci z mnoha vědních oborů. Lesy totiž čelí kromě známých výzev i novým problémům, které vyžadují inovativní přístup a mezioborovou spolupráci.

Období těžby černého uhlí se definitivně chýlí ke konci. Krajina ostravsko-karvinské uhelné pánve hledá cesty pro nové využití. Poddolování s sebou ale do budoucna nese potenciální riziko v podobě nových pohybů povrchu země, například poklesů nebo záchvěvů povrchu. Regenerace poddolovaného území, včetně uvažovaného zatápění dolů a vytvoření rozsáhlých obytných, rekreačních a také průmyslových zón, proto musí následovat až po pečlivém a zodpovědném vymezení všech georizik.

Kniha je interdisciplinární a multimetodologickou studií bezdomovectví v Česku. Autor v ní čtenáři ukazuje, jak se bezdomovectví zhmotňuje na průsečíku politickoekonomických faktorů, jako jsou demokratizace společnosti nebo integrace do globální ekonomiky, a specifických doprovodných logik vznikajících na pomezí kultury ulice a určitých podmínek charakteristických pro českou společnost.

Rural studies have shown considerable interest in the implications the eventization of agriculture has for both rural communities and the agri-food system in the Global North. To contribute to the debate on the transformative potential of agri-food events such as farm festivals and agritourism, in this paper I present ethnographic evidence from a visitors` day taking place at the site of an organic smallholder farm in rural Western Bohemia.
