Science importantly influences our understandings of the world and forms and shapes the environment, nature and society. Modern science has become a central force and driver of contemporary societies. Because of its importance it is constantly assessed and compared today. The text is then framed by the provocative question whether Czech science is global. It plays with the meaning of the term universal and explores how boundaries between Czech, European and global science are enacted. In individual parts of the text we argue that the links between Czech, European and global science are complicated and complexly shaped by material, political, social and economic conditions. The first problematisation of the concept of universalism discussed in the text relates to the unequal situation of individual disciplines and specialisations; the second to the issue of epistemic authority of creators of knowledge, to how knowledge is perceived within the scientific community.
