The author reflects the concept of universal basic income from the feminist perspective and argues that to introduce universal basic income is not enough to accomplish gender equality. While universal basic income is progressive in questioning the prevailing paradigm of paid work as the most important social responsibility, it does not question the gendered division of labour and thus it could not lead to liberation of women’s choices. The concept of basic income is rooted in the paradigm of egalitarian libertarianism which states that individual freedom is conditioned firstly by redistribution of material resources and secondly by ownership of oneself. The author declares that from the feminist perspective we need to decline the second condition. Because women still carry most of the caring responsibilities upon their shoulders, social justice in order to be gender fair need to conceptualize subject of justice as interdependent individual.
