The basic microeconomic theses are followed by principles and specific features of housing as a good that cause housing market rigidity and inefficiency. The chapter also describes different forms of house prices indices and gives a methodological overview of how changes in house prices (booms and busts) can be explained and how house price bubbles emerge.
