This article seeks to describe and explain some of the factors behind the prevalence of women in informal care for seniors. It presents a qualitative study of women who are caring for a frail elderly parent in the Czech Re-public. Care is seen as a space where gender and other intersecting identi-ties are performed and this has specific subjective, structural and material consequences.

Focusing on a subject largely neglected in mainstream Czech social stratification research so far, this study seeks to examine to what extent tertiary educational attainment and educational mobility are affected by personal factors, such as personality traits, physical attractiveness, and self-esteem. It is based on data drawn from a large-scale representative survey carried out in the Czech Republic (Neglected Human Capital Dimensions 2015) as the second follow-up to the OECD PIAAC project.

Časoprostor bývá základní konceptuální optikou, jakou je v sociálních vědách na bezdomovectví nahlíženo. Většina studií věnovaných vztahu bezdomovectví a časoprostoru ale chápe tento vztah nediferencovaně, tzn., dle našeho názoru dostatečně neproblematizuje jeho individuální, skupinové či lokálně-podmíněné vnímání, praktikování a prožívání. A přitom rozdíly jsou ve studiu (časoprostoru) lidí bez domova extrémně důležité.

Representative survey of adult population is used to analyse perceptions of existing income inequality and preferences for ideal income distribution in the Czech Republic. On average, Czechs view the distribution of disposable income as more unequal than it actually is. This biased perception results from underestimating total income shares belonging to bottom quintiles and overestimating total income share belonging to the top income quintile.

Národy jsou vnímány jako soubory vzájemně propojených rodin, které mají společné předky, žijí na historickém teritoriu a sdílejí společnou kulturu. Národní identita se utváří v kontrastu s jinými národy a národnostními skupinami. Ekonomicky prosperující země, jako je Česká republika, jsou atraktivní pro cizince - příslušníky jiných národů, kteří na její území přicházejí žít.

Data z mezinárodních výzkumů ESS ukazují, že spokojenost s fungováním demokracie v posledních letech v Česku, Estonsku, Maďarsku, Polsku a na Slovensku vzrůstá. K poklesu spokojenosti s fungováním demokracie naopak došlo v řadě starých demokracií – v Belgii, Dánsku, Finsku, Francii, Irsku, na Islandu, v Itálii, Rakousku a Španělsku. Spokojenost s fungováním demokracie souvisí se spokojeností s vývojem ekonomiky.

In this article, we propose to expand the field of urban political ecology (UPE) by analyzing the role of discourse in the production of urban nature. We exemplify our case by analyzing media discourses and exploring discursive modes of justification and hierarchies of worth mobilized in socialist and postsocialist struggles over allotments in what is now the Czech Republic.

This article focuses on the problem of wealth inequalities as an as yet overlooked axis of social inequalities in the Czech Republic. Wealth inequalities and their development over time are measured here on the basis of the value of the real estate (a flat or house) in which the household lives. The value of household real estate has grown significantly in recent decades in the Czech Republic and Czechs still favour owner-occupied housing over other forms of housing tenure.

In the Czech public and professional discourse, there is a strong rhetoric of a rooted egalitarianism of the society. This study thus traces various objective and subjective dimensions of socio-economic inequality in an attempt to examine the validity of this rhetoric. It uses various data on levels and trends in earnings, household income and living conditions in the Czech Republic in comparison with other European countries.

V publikaci jsou představovány výstupy z projektu, jehož hlavním cílem bylo podpořit pečovatelské služby v jejich úsilí přizpůsobit (transformovat) organizační i obsahové nastavení vizi „Žít doma“. Ta je směrována na všechny, kdo potřebují podporu jiné osoby (senioři, zdravotně postižení, chronicky nemocní apod.), ve snaze umožnit jim žít i zemřít ve svém vlastním domově i v době, kdy potřebují intenzivní a opakovanou pomoc další osoby.

Za posledních dvacet let došlo v České republice k zásadnímu nárůstu počtu studentů na vysokých školách. Jedním z důsledků je, že v naší populaci vzrostly podíly osob s ukončeným vysokoškolským vzděláním na dvojnásobek. Prudký rozvoj vzdělávacího systému vyvolává řadu otázek. Mění se vztah mezi vzděláním, chováním, hodnotami a postoji? Rozevřela se v posledních třech desetiletích propast mezi lidmi s nižším a vyšším vzděláním, nebo se naopak rozdíly mezi nimi stírají?
