The central empirical puzzle addressed in this book is why are Czech citizens’ attitudes towards key facets of democracy so similar under socialist democracy in 1968 and liberal democracy in 2008? Examining unique survey datasets from the late 1960s and 2008 this book reveals that Czech and Slovak citizens’ political attitudes can justifiably be characterised in terms of stability.

This paper contributes to the debate on the relative impact of institutions or cultural values by analyzing parental attitudes to childcare, i.e. by focusing on the micro level of decisions in families instead of the macro level of political decisions andmeasures regarding childcare. The aim of this chapter is to show how students react to sexual harassment initiated by professors and what strategies they use to cope with the situation given that the issue of sexual harassment is marginalized and universities have no anti-harassmentpolicies in place. Students are forced to cope with harassment on their own. Strategies they adopt can be divided into tree types: participatory, passive tolerance and active resistance.

In the countries of the former Eastern bloc (and the USSR), abortion politics followed a different historical path than in Western Europe. In Czechoslovakia, abortion was made legal relatively early on, almost as soon as the social and political turmoil that followed World War II and the communist coup in 1948 had settled. Unlike in Western Europe, however, it was not legalized in response to pressure from civil society or the feminist movement.

V předkládané publikaci autorský tým projektu Rekonstituování demokracie v Evropě nabízí pohled na proměny české veřejné sféry a české politiky v kontextu přípravy Smlouvy o Ústavě pro Evropu, ratifikace Lisabonské smlouvy a následných voleb do Evropského parlamentu (2009). Období přípravy a ratifikace Lisabonské smlouvy (2004–2009) je velmi podnětné, protože představovalo v České republice klíčový posun hlavního proudu českého politického diskurzu v otázkách Evropské unie.

The paper focuses on the differences between marriage and unmarried cohabitations in the terms of their stability. We study the impact of various factors on the stability of marriages and unmarried cohabitations taking into account the different socio-demographic indicators. The paper is based on the quantitative data from the research "Life-course 2010" that included 4010 respondents. We approached to the analysis via event history method.
