Tato kapitola se zabývá nejen nerovnostmi v šancích na dosažení vyššího vzdělání, vývojem vzdělanostní mobility, ale též vlivem sociálního původu a dosaženého vzdělání na úroveň kompetencí jedince. Výsledky provedených analýz potvrzují obecný trend poklesu podílu vzestupně mobilních a růstu podílu sestupně mobilních jedinců a prokazují, že v základních mobilitních vzorcích existují velké rozdíly mezi muži a ženami (vzestupnou mobilitou prošlo výrazně více žen než mužů).

I argue in this chapter that we do not need, in STS, to be concerned with losing theory (to descriptions and stories, fieldwork, practice or politics), rather recognizing different forms in which theory is and can be practiced. Along that line, we create a space to further decenter STS theory from masculinity, professional community and the (lab) natural science epistemic order.

The paper discusses changes that have occurred in the Czech pension system since 1996 in terms of their gender impact. The pension system is considered in a broader socio-economic context. I take into account different working careers of men and women and their unequal share in unpaid care work.

The study provides a basic comparative demographic analysis of regions in the Central European area. It is particularly focused on population shrinkage and population ageing which is present at the regional level in all the countries in Central Europe. Firtly, information about the territorial scope and thematic focus of the study is described. Secondly, a demographic and socio-economic analysis of shrinking and growing regions and cities in Central Europe for the last ten years is provided.

V posledních dvou desetiletích dochází k významné proměně migračních preferencí i migračního chování obyvatelstva v Česku. Tato tendence je ovlivňována postsocialistickou transformací i demografickými, ekonomickými a technologickými změnami uplatňujícími se v Evropě. Příspěvek přináší dokumentaci migrační bilance v posledních dvou desetiletích (1992-2010) se zvláštním zaměřením na kategorii nejmenších obcí s méně než 500 obyvateli.

This book studies the unique demographic behavior of Jews in Bohemia, starting from a moment in history when industrialization in Central Europe was far away in the future and when Jews were still living legally restricted lives in ghettos. Under conditions not stipulated by conventional demographic theories, Bohemian Jews started recording marked decreases in mortality and fertility that signaled an early onset of their demographic transition.

Publikace se zaměřuje na představení dostupných dat, a to v časových řadách od roku 2001. Data ukazují, že neplatí předpoklad růstu podílu vědkyň v situaci, kdy se trvale zvyšuje podíl žen mezi studujícími vysokých škol a vysokoškolsky vzdělanou populací. Z osob, které mají v ČR kvalifikaci pro výkon výzkumné profese, tvoří 50 % ženy, mezi výzkumníky jich je ale jen 25,1 % (v FTE).
