Projekt je součást mezinárodního komparativního výzkumného projektu International Metropolitan Observatory, který se soustřeďuje na studium sociálně-prostorových změn, k nimž dochází v metropolitních oblatech, a jejich vlivu na změny politického chování. Výzkum testuje hypotézy o rostoucí prostorové segregaci sociálních skupin v metropolitních oblastech a jejich vzrůstajícím vlivu na politické chování obyvatel, klesající politické aktivitě obyvatel příměstských residenčních oblastí a rostoucí odlišnosti pražské metropolitní oblasti od ostatních metropolititních oblastí v České republice v důsledku většího vystavení globalizačním vlivům. Metodologicky je projekt založen na geografické a statistické analýze agregátních dat charakterizujících sociální strukturu a politické chování obyvatel. Jednotkou sledování jsou individuální obce v zázemí měst a městské části, resp. čtvrti v případě jádrových měst. Agregátní analýzy jsou doplněny případovými studiemi ve vybraných lokalitách.

The presented study deals with the political consequences of the suburbanization process in the four largest metropolitan areas in the Czech Republic after 1989. The aggregate socio-economic data on the level of municipalities are used first for the creation of typology of suburban communes. Then the electoral turnout in suburban municipalities is studied in relations to their socio-economic, cultural and geographical features.

Tato studie se zaměřuje na politické důsledky suburbanizace v pěti vybraných lokalitách v okrajových městských částech Prahy (Březiněves, Kolovraty) a Brna (Jehnice) a v obcích v zázemí Prahy (Horoměřice, Jesenice). Je součástí širšího výzkumného projektu, který studuje socioekonomické, demografické a politické změny v suburbánních obcích. V rámci této studie jsou představeny některé politické důsledky suburbanizace, které není možné postihnout kvantitativní analýzou.
