Humanistic and phenomenological scholarship has long tended to regard home as a fundamental place of existential and experiential stability. In recent times, the notion of home has been critically re‐examined, however, and home is now regarded as a more complex and multi‐faceted phenomenon.

The aim of this article is to investigate the factors that influence the size of activity spaces of homeless men and women in cities. Vulnerable population groups such as the homeless face the risk of mobility challenges that can exacerbate their social exclusion even more through mobility-driven spatial exclusion. The extent of an individual’'s activity space is a key precondition for the daily coping strategies and life opportunities of homeless people.

Kdo dnes zkouší hledat bydlení v Praze nebo Brně, čelí často nepříjemnému překvapení. Ceny nemovitostí i nájemné dosahují takové výše, že i lidé s průměrnými příjmy začínají mít problémy si bydlení dovolit.

In this article, we propose to expand the field of urban political ecology (UPE) by analyzing the role of discourse in the production of urban nature. We exemplify our case by analyzing media discourses and exploring discursive modes of justification and hierarchies of worth mobilized in socialist and postsocialist struggles over allotments in what is now the Czech Republic.

We focus on the role of within-family socialisation and the relationship between socialisation and resource transfers in the intergenerational transmission of housing preferences, the formation of familial housing attitudes and thus the reproduction of a normative housing tenure ladder across generations in Czech society. We show that resource transfers and the within-family socialisation of housing preferences, including preferences concerning housing tenure, are closely interconnected.

The chapter describes the main milestones on the path of private renting growth in the Czech Republic after 1990 and a snapshot analysis of the status of the private rental sector today. The goal of this chapter is to show that specific interventions and regulations, often short-term in nature (such as property restitution, rent regulation or public housing privatization), had a significant impact on the long-term meaning of private renting in the Czech Republic, i.e.

Property restitution is the process in which property expropriated by communist regime was returned to the previous owners or their descendants. This chapter seeks to explain the differences between the housing restitution strategies adopted by post-socialist countries, to present in-depth case studies in four countries, and to discuss the impact of property restitution on the development of the private rental sector in these countries.
