The article focuses on the relationship between marital status and life satisfaction in European countries. The first part discusses subjective evaluations of life satisfaction. The second part is devoted to empirical analyses of ESS data. The results show that married people are generally happier than other. This effect is not mediated by divorce rate in the society.
