S využitím historických pramenů a datových souborů existujících sociologických a statistických šetření projekt zamýšlí porovnat historii stratifikačního výzkumu a vývoj sociální struktury v České republice, Maďarsku, Polsku a na Slovensku od komunistických časů, a to rovněž v porovnání s Rakouskem. Nejprve hodlá prozkoumat dějiny stratifikačního výzkumu od jeho empirických počátků do současnosti. Dále se bude věnovat hlavním konceptům sociální stratifikace po roce 1990. Poté popíše trendy v základních dimenzích sociální struktury v jednotlivých zemích, včetně vzorců mobility a vnímání nerovnosti. Posléze se zaměří na jednotky sociální struktury s ohledem na proměny rodiny a struktury domácnosti. Nakonec se věnuje vztahům „vertikálních“ a „horizontálních“ dimenzí sociální struktury. Kromě jiných dat bude především použito komparativní evropské šetření EU-SILC, doposud pro stratifikační účely téměř nevyužívané.

This paper focuses on a neglected—horizontal—dimension of social stratification. It examines the patterns of social differentiation in the Visegrad countries (the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia) and attempts to assess changes in the social structure at the subnational level. Social structure changes are explained within the context of broader socio-economic development.
The conventional optics of social stratification research—in which the social position of the family unit is seen as being determined by the status of the male head of the household—has been challenged since the early 1970s. Economic research has also questioned the approach that views the household as a single unit.

This chapter explores part-time employment in Central and Eastern European countries (CEE) as compared to Western Europe. The aim is to examine the relationship between part-time work and labour utilisation in CEE, and to evaluate whether a potential expansion of part-time employment may facilitate growth in labour utilisation. The analyses on panel data identify the main determinants of part-time employment and the key factors that limit it in CEE.

There was not a fixed border between social sciences in general, and particularly sociology on the one side, and cognisant journalism on the other in the past. If such a border already existed, usually after the full establishment of sociology as an academic discipline, certain sociologists deliberately crossed it.
Most stratification research concerns solely the economically active population and omits inactive seniors. Retirees are often treated as a separate and rather homogeneous social category. However, this approach is only partially valid. Retirees can still be differentiated in regard to their objective and subjective well-being, which is linked to their former occupations.
Working for low pay may have substantial negative consequences at both the individual and societal level. This article adds to scarce research on low pay in Czechia, employing pooled longitudinal EU-SILC data for 2004 – 2017. It analyses patterns of low-wage employment and estimates the degree of low-pay persistence in terms of genuine state dependence in low-wage employment, accounting for both observed and unobserved heterogeneity among workers and endogeneity in the initial conditions.
This article outlines developments in empirical research on social stratification in the four countries constituting currently the Visegrád Group (V4). Sociology has been developing, if unevenly, as a discipline in these countries since the 19th or early 20th century. Empirical research on social stratification, based on data collected in large surveys, started here by the mid-1960s, first in Poland, then in Hungary, and later in the former Czechoslovakia.
