The aspirations and expectations of pupils are one of the most significant causal factors on achieving higher education. Educational expectations are also incfluenced by the social status of the family, the institutional context of educational systems, and other factors. The goal of this chpater is to further empirically test the relationship between educational expectations and the institutional character of educational systems on the basis of a comparative analysis of data from PISA 2003 survey and OECD statistics.
