The text is based on one of three work-life balance case studies made by SOÚ AV ČR, v.v in the years 2006-2007. In the research were, on the level of parents-employees (fathers and mothers), company (human resources) and unions representatives, conditions for combining of work and family life analyzed. The study was made in one engineering holding that has both in Czech Republic and Germany an important manufacturing plant with prevailing band production. The analysis shows important national differences in the treating of parents. Whereas in Germany the awareness of need of a "family friendly environment" and the endorsement of women to access machine-industry is present, in Czech Rep. gendered (almost discriminating) company environment with articulated "more capitalistic" approach where room for family is minimal or absent prevails. In the Czech company huge passivity in asserting or demanding of better work-family conditions on both company and parents-employees level appeared.
